YCCCA 约克區華人聯會

I have been the president of YCCCA York Central Chinese Canadian Association 约克區華人聯會 since 2002.

The Chinese Association of Vaughan was formed in 1986 to address the needs of the Chinese community in Vaughan. The goals of the Association was to promote, support and protect the social and cultural interests of our local Chinese community, to bridge the government and the Chinese community as well as to promote harmony between the Chinese community and other local communities.

To accommodate the requests of residents, the Association was later expanded to include all of York region. The newly renamed York Central Chinese Canadian Association was registered with the Ministry of Consumer and Commercial Affairs in 1987 as a non-profit organization.

Since the beginning of the ‘80s, with the Chinese residents moved to the York Region, the membership also increased steadily. The Association holds regular weekly programs, youth leadership programs, informative seminars as well as fund raising activities for other non-profit organizations. The weekly programs include: Tai Chi class, Cantonese opera singing class, line-dance and ballroom dance classes, badminton and youth basketball practices.

The Association has taken an active role in the public arena, in nourishing the younger generation to co-operate and take responsibilities. At this date the Association has grown to be a representative of the Chinese residents and a force in the community.

For more information about this very popular and successful non-profitable organization that serves over 500 active members in the York Region and The Great Toronto Area, please visit website www.yccca.com.
