What is a graph ?
A graph usually is a line or a curve, which shows the relation between two variable quantities, each measured along one of a pair of axes at right angles.
How to comment on graphs ?
- First : describe the graph. What can you see ? A curve ? A straight line ? A heavy line ? A borken line ? A dotted line ?
- Second : If you want to describe an upward movement. You can use this vocabulary:The graph is increasing, rising, climbing or going up... or there is an increase/rise in...
- Third : if you want to describe a downward movement.
There is a drop in/ a decrease between 1300 and 1460... or the curve is falling....
- Fourth : To indicate no movement.
The line remains steady/ stays constant... or there is a peak or the peak year is...
- fifth : To indicate a change
* degree of change : hugely/greatly/slightly
* speed of change : quickly /fast/swiftly
* in direction : to take off
