After the buffet luncheon was enjoyed, the gathering played Bingo, after which all attendees were invited to the prize table to select the remaining gifts. The gifts had donated by Marian Kawano and Iris Tamura.

Guest Speakers (7) were from the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP), State of Hawaii, Executive Office of Aging who presented skits and answered questions on Medicare
The HSFC (NARFE Hawaii Federation) August 2012 newsletter will not be mailed this quarter due to the high cost of the paper copies and US Mail distribution. Normal mail distribution will be resumed for the November newsletter. Note: Copies of the August newsletter were provided for members to view. The Senior Fair will be held on September 28-30, 2012 at NBC. NARFE Hawaii Federation will have a booth.
The September meeting will be the quarterly luncheon. After discussion, Fook Yuen was decided upon, with costs decided as $10 and $12 for members and guests, respectively.

Guest Speaker --Russell Subiono, Charity Review Administrator/Public Outreach Coordinator from the Better Business Bureau (BBB). Mr. Subiono presented a PowerPoint briefing on BBB’s history.
In an extended Q & A period, Russell provided very interesting information in regard to business offers, "charity" solicitations, qualified organizations etc and the tools/resources that the public can use to investigate or review the status of a business or charity.

Business - The handout for the upcoming National Convention proposed bylaw changes were circulated. After circulation, the handout will be given to other District 7 attendees at the upcoming quarterly HSFC meeting for Convention use.

Guest Speakers - 5 Officers from the HPD (Community Policing Team) District 7
A short (40 min), but very informative interactive session dealing with senior related issues ranging from pedestrian safety, from a drivers point of view; adult safety tips, describing a suspect, neighborhood watch, bicycles (as vehicles), senior ID information and parking regulations. There were a lot of member questions on bicycle/riders and laws.
It was interesting to hear about the lack of understanding of current regulations and fines/penalties associated the offense.
For meeting attendees, easy to read (and understand) brochures were passed out for the majority of the topics. The parking regulations brochure is now available and is posted below.

Guest Speakers - Mark and Alaine Reynolds of Senior Movers Hawaii who discussed its services available to assist seniors downsizing from a larger to a smaller home.
A short and very interesting presentation addressed the issues and potential solutions related to the moving decision, planning process and execution.
Senior Movers offers a well thought out path that needs to be considered by all that have to face the issue for themselves or others (under their care).

Unfinished Business:
1. The Reading File was circulated.
2. The upcoming National Convention was discussed. If any member intended to attend, they are to inform President Tamura for further support and action.
3. The NARFE Call to Congress Day was announce for February 15, 2012.
4. The update of member information for correct phone numbers for the Phone Tree callers (Jane Chow, Agnes Chun, Yuk Chan Nuuhiwa, Angie Ing) will be an ongoing effort.
New Business and Announcements:
1. HSFC Aloha Newsletter folding date was agreed for May 15, 2012 to replace the initially scheduled May 8, 2012 meeting.
2. Next Chapter meeting and Excursion. Will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 starting at 10 am at Kahala Nui, then to lunch at Golden Duck Kahala at approximately 12:30 pm.

Note: This May 15 ( 3rd Tuesday) effort replaces the normal 2nd Tuesday monthly meeting for Chapter 311.
As in the past, this will be a joint effort with the Waikiki Chapter. 2 hours have been scheduled for this effort.

One of the best attended Chapter 311meetings in the past 3 years, excluding "food events".
Guest Speaker, John Priolo, 1st VP of the Hawaii Federation. provided an excellent review of the NARFE political action process with attention to upcoming election year timetable (for NARFE HI endorsement/recommendation). Part of the discussion included the review of the expected candidates' prior voting records, related to NARFE goals.
Both House and one Senate seats will be up to the voters this year.
John also encouraged members to to support the NARFE political action (NARFE PAC) effort with monetary contributions.
A regular business meeting followed.
The increase in chapter dues, from $3 to $6 was restated.
Next meeting Feb 14, Valentine's Day will be at Ala Wai. Our guest speaker will be Aiaine Reynolds, of Senior Movers Hawaii, who will discuss the aspects of downsizing, with regard to relocating to a smaller living space.
NARFE National Convention: – August 26-30, 2012; Sparks, NV, John Ascuaga’s Nugget. Let Jim know if you will be attending. For the past convention, Chapter 311 did not have participating members, so, we provided our vote by proxy to another HI chapter. Other : There are some options for participants willing to participate in working groups prior to the convention.
