1. My body.

But teacher, we learned about the human body in 1rst Cycle. Why do we have to do it again?

That is a good question.

Yes, we know a little bit of our body, but now it is time to learn more about it. Think about this: a professional rider needs to know how his motorcycle works because he has to tell his engineers and mechanics how to improve it for being faster.

In P.E. is the same thing with our body. We are going to jump, we are going to run... and if we want to improve all our motor skills, we need to know how our body works. We are going to pay special attention to:

    - Bones.

    - Muscles and

    - cardiovascular system,

because they are very related to our course. Let's go!

Bones are rigid organs that constitute part of the endoskeleton of vertebrates. They support, and protect the various organs of the body, produce red and white blood cells and store minerals.

The skeleton is the body part that forms the supporting structure of an organism. The human skeleton consists of both fused and individual bones supported and supplemented by ligaments, tendons, muscles and cartilage. It serves as a scaffold which supports organs, anchors muscles, and protects organs such as the brain, lungs and heart.

There are 206 bones in the adult human skeleton, and it takes 20 years before it is fully developed.(Wikipedia).

Muscle is a contractile tissue whose function is to produce force and cause motion. Muscles can cause either locomotion of the organism itself or movement of internal organs. Cardiac and smooth muscle contraction occurs without conscious thought and is necessary for survival. Examples are the contraction of the heart and peristalsis, which pushes food through the digestive system. Voluntary contraction of the skeletal muscles is used to move the body and can be finely controlled.(Wikipedia).

There are about 640 muscles in the human body.

It's a big name for one of the most important systems in the body. Made up of the heart, blood and blood vessels, the circulatory system is your body's delivery system. Blood, moving from the heart, delivers oxygen and nutrients to every part of the body. On the return trip, the blood picks up waste products so that your body can get rid of them.     Tip: exercise and healthy food, like milk, for example, makes your bones stronger.

                                       Arm.

We could not live without our muscles. Remember: heart is a muscle, the most important muscle. And we need our muscles for everything: breathing, eating, walking, playing... living. Physical Education and physical activity are very important, because they keep our muscles (and the rest of our body) healthy. You do not like to be ill, don't you? So...

...don't be a "couch potato".

                    Did you know that...

    - ...your heart beats 100.000 times a day, 35.000.000 times a year, and 2.500.000.000 times in your whole life?

    - ...there are 96.000 km. of blood vessels in the human body?

-...your heart is your muscle that works hardest?

I hope you had read carefully, because now it is time to show you did it. It is time for some activities. Maybe you had to quit this website, but you already know how to get back here. (Clue: back button of your browser, do you remember?).

TIP: KIDSHEALTH.ORG

Kidshealth.org is a great website about health. It contains a lot of information and many funny games and videos.

And this is the end of the topic. Keep working!
