My first choice, if given the opportunity to travel the world with fifty-thousand dollars, would be Switzerland. From a previous visit to my relatives in Switzerland, I was able to experience a glimpse into its scenic landscapes, unique culture, and its role in our current world politics. From the Swiss Alps to cheese fondue, the country offers so many interesting places to explore and people to meet. Switzerland has a rich food tradition and history, especially in cheese and chocolate, and I would love to visit the country and explore more of its culture as well. If I were to live elsewhere, I would choose to live and raise a family in Switzerland.
I would also love to visit Iceland, also known as the land of ice and fire. Its stunning landscape boasts extremely unique and awesome places to visit, containing both volcanoes and glaciers. Iceland also is only one of two places in the world where the Earth's tectonic plates are visible and meet above the Earth's surface. One of my goals to do before I die is to backpack for a few months by myself, and Iceland is definitely a place (although it a group of islands) on my to-do list.
Vietnam is my country of origin, and my parents immigrated from Vietnam to America in the late 80s. Although I am Vietnamese, I have never traveled to my home country. Having a sense of where I came from is a struggle for myself because it is hard to connect to some of my elderly relatives with a slight language barrier. My mother and family members cook many traditional Vietnamese dishes that I love, but have never learned to cook myself. It's important for me to discover my roots and learn more about the culture where I have come from, and Vietnam is where all of the answers are for me.
