Acronyms & Links

Just a list of a few acronyms that I use throughout this site and you will hear during your time in the Army.

  • ACU
    • Army Combat Uniform
    • The standard Army uniform that you will wear most of your days in the military.
  • ADT
    • Active Duty Training
    • You are required to complete 45 days of this each year
    • These will be satisfied by BOLC your first year, and subsequently by rotations at Army hospitals in your later years of med school
  • AMEDD
  • AKO
    • Army Knowledge Online
    • A website of various Army information, most of which will not apply to you
    • Once the location of your Army e-mail, but it has since been moved to web.mail.mil
    • You will come to this site once a year to fill out a portion of your PHA
  • APFT
    • Army Physical Fitness Test
    • The physical fitness test you will take every 6 months in the Army
  • ASU
    • Army Service Uniform
    • Essentially, your "dress" uniform that you will wear to formal events and Army residency interviews
  • BOLC
    • Basic Officer Leaders Course
    • As the name suggests, this is your introduction to being an Army officer
    • This will most likely occupy the summer after your first year of medical school
      • While it is not necessary to complete this training at this time, it is highly recommended as it will facilitate your ability to complete other ADTS throughout school
  • CAC
    • Common Access Card
    • Your military identification card
    • You will use this for everything from logging into your e-mail, to purchasing food at a commissary
  • CDW
    • Cost Data Worksheet
    • The reimbursement request form.
    • Found on MODS under "Requests > Cost Data Worksheet"
  • DCA Application
    • Direction Commissioning and Accessioning
    • The part of your HPSP packet that collects your background information
  • HRC
  • MEPS
    • Military Entrance Processing Station
    • Location on base where you will go for testing and medical screening
  • MODS
    • Medical Operational Data System
    • Your main source for receiving and submitting information throughout your HPSP experience
    • Has some information on finances, but more detailed info may be found on MyPay

  • MyPay
  • PC
    • Patrol cap
    • You standard ACU cap
    • Must be worn outdoors while in ACUs
  • PHA
    • Periodic Health Assessment
    • Your mandatory, yearly check-up
    • The first part of this must be completed by you prior to your check-up on the AKO website
  • PRT
    • Physical readiness training
    • The physical training you will do most mornings of BOLC
  • RAPIDS
    • Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System
    • Locations where you may acquire, unlock, or replace your CAC
