COMLEX and/or USMLE?

This page goes out to all of you osteopathic physicians out there. There's no doubt about it, the path to residency as an osteopathic medical student is not as straightforward as the one for allopaths. Throwing the military into the mix only complicates things...or does it?

I have come to understand that opposed to civilian osteopathic medical students who often must take both the COMLEX and USMLE exams (as of 2015 - who knows what will happen in the next few years with the big merge), HPSP osteopathic pupils need only take the COMLEX exam. Residency programs apparently only look at the score of the exam associated with your professional title.

At BOLC, I was able to speak with the Army GME Program Director, and she informed me that residency directors of all specialties were made aware that only 1 set of scores is required - the one specific to your degree. Furthermore, I confirmed that there is absolutely ZERO benefit to taking the USMLE as a DO candidate if you are applying solely to Army residency programs.
