2008 CODESRIA Multinational Working Group research grant Support for research on the role of hip hop in articulating the vision of an African Renaissance as part of 12 other scholars working in 8 African countries on the topic of Youth and identity in Africa.

2006 Wenner-Gren Foundation, Richard Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship

Support the writing of a manuscript titled “Reversed Gaze: An African encounters America through Anthropology,” during the 2007-08 academic year.
