• Swedish International Development Agency (sida) consultancy grant, to support consultancy work on the relevance, effectiveness, challenges, and successes of the East African Book Weeks in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, April-may 1999.

• Plan International consultancy grant, to support an ethnographic study of factors that lead to children entering and living in/on the streets in Embu, Kenya, 1996-97.
