Bus Driver

Bus Driver

Words and Music by Sue Wood

Oh bus driver, bus driver, what can we say?

We're happy you take all our children away,

And drive them all safely to where they belong.

Bus driver, bus driver this is your song.

In the morning we kiss them and send them on their way,

Tell them to be good and to have a nice day.

Do they board the bus quietly or kick up a fuss?

Oh bus driver, bus driver you can tell us.

Well actually they're noisy and like to throw hats,

Pull each others hair and throw up in the back.

And some fall asleep and roll off of their seats.

Yes driving your children can be a real treat.

Oh bus driver, bus driver we all think of you,

When it's snowing a blizzard and minus twenty-two.

When the wipers are frozen and the heater is bust,

Oh bus driver, bus driver do you think of us?

As we sit in our jammies and drink cups of tea,

Talk on the phone or just watch T.V.

When your fingers are frozen and you can't shut the door,

Still bus driver, bus driver you go back for more.

Oh mothers and fathers do you have all day,

To hear all my stories of what your kids say?

Of the songs that they sing and the food that they throw,

Or would it be better if you just didn't know?

When it's raining, it's pouring, you can't see the road.

We trust you are careful with our precious load.

As you skirt stalled out truckers, and keep out of the ditch,

And finish your run without a hitch.

In the summer when it's boiling, we all think of you.

Of our kids sweaty bodies and smelly running shoes.

Of your trips to the city or out to the zoo.

When the old bus breaks down and they all look at you.

Oh bus driver, bus driver what can we say?

We're happy you take all our children away.

And drive them all safely to where they belong.

Bus driver, bus driver this is your song.
