Pearl AshTone wood block

^ Pearl AshTone wood block, low pitch

The Pearl AshTone wood block is one of many blocks you can buy. The Pearl block is trapezoidal, unlike most others, and mounts onto most ⅜ inch mounting posts. There are three pitches available: high, medium, and low; the low-pitched one is pictured. All are made in Thailand.

The Pearl AshTone wood block has a very full, robust tone. There are a number of tones you can get out of it. In order to get a full "chock" sound, it is best to strike the bevel on the edge where the top and front surfaces converge. You can get a slightly thinner, but still robust sound by striking the top surface (up to 1½ inches from the front/top bevel).

Prices ranges (approximate):

High -

Medium - $21-35

Low - $29

Final rating: ★★★★★ - Robust, full sound and ease of playing. Affordable, but some sites that sell it may raise the list price to make you think you're saving $15 or so.
