Recent publication in Management Science: Bank Specialization and Zombie Lending
Banks specialize in lending to certain industries. Such specialization gives banks an information advantage about firms in an industry which also makes them better at identifying zombie firms and makes them more informed about the negative impact that zombie firms exert on healthy firms in the industry. We show that specialized banks, as consequence, reduce lending to zombie firms faster than non-specialized banks.
