MICHELLE PACANSKY-BROCK

Michelle is an award winning community college educator who is passionate about meeting the needs of diverse learners through innovative uses of technology. From 2002-2009 she served as a full-time art history professor at Sierra College and the Director of the Online and Hybrid Support Center at CSU East Bay in 2009. Currently, Michelle is a doctoral student in Educational Management and Leadership; an online instructor at Mt. San Jacinto College; a faculty development trainer for @One, specializing in teaching instructors how to build community online with social media; a learning consultant for VoiceThread; a guest blogger for Cisco's GETIdeas.org network, and the author of the forthcoming book, Best Practices for Teaching with Emerging Technologies. Get On Board With MSJC's VoiceThread Pilot!

VoiceThread is a web-based tool that enables online conversations about media in voice, video, or text. Anchored in an intuitive interface, designed to meet the unique needs of diverse users, VoiceThread extends the option to leave comments in voice (with a microphone, telephone, or with the new iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch app), video with a webcam, or text. Participating in a VoiceThread is like sharing around a campfire -- it adds personalization, emotion, and relevance to your online class.

Participants in this 2-day workshop will be included in MSJC's VoiceThread pilot for spring semester. In exchange for your participation and use of VoiceThread in at least one of your classes, you will get a free VoiceThread PRO account and free phone commenting minutes for students who don't have a microphone or iOS device. If you register, you are agreeing to be part of a one-semester VoiceThread pilot at MSJC which will require participation in two faculty and one student survey this spring semester.

CORINNE SHELTREN

Corinne is currently a Learning Services Consultant with Xerox, based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. At Xerox, Corinne develops custom eLearning courseware to be delivered in custom CMS’s as well as Moodle and Blackboard. She has a strong background in instructional design, project management, process improvement and eLearning. After taking classes in the Multimedia Department from Mt. San Jacinto College in the late 90’s, Corinne embarked on a career in the Training and Development world. She has worked with small mom and pop shops as well as organizations with 20K+ employees. In 2011 Corinne took a leap into public education to teach in the department she started her schooling in. She now teaches Intro to Multimedia and Project Management. In 2007 Corinne decided to go back to school; given her background it was no surprise she choose a program that was 100% online. As an online student Corinne was able to experience firsthand the difference between instructors who developed skills of how to teach online, and those who did not. Pulling from the 5 years experience of being an online student, Corinne thoughtful designs online course environments balancing her insights as a student with the needs of the instructor.

Rick Miller is a Senior Solutions Engineer for Education at Adobe Systems where he helps Adobe’s education customers find the solutions they need to enhance the pedagogical experiences of their students. Before working at Adobe Systems, Rick taught Photoshop/Digital Imaging at the prestigious Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA, and Digital Design at Cal Poly Pomona University, so he's cognizant of the unique challenges that face educators. Rick is an Adobe Certified Expert in Photoshop, Lightroom, Acrobat X, and Acrobat Connect. Additionally, Rick is an expert in color management. Moreover, Rick is a professional photographer who is certified on the Leaf and Phase One digital backs, and trains users on the Hasselblad digital back. Rick continues to consult with Law Enforcement agencies in the Forensic application of Photoshop.

DONNA EYESTONE

Donna Eyestone has been teaching multimedia in the Bay Area for over 15 years. Her Digital Media Skills course has won awards for online learning from both @ONE and the U.S. Distance Learning Association. Having previously worked for Apple designing online training - including technical writing and screen movies - she currently teaches online media courses for CCSF and LTCC and @One. In 1989, Donna completed a BA in computer music composition from Clark University. She received an MFA in electronic music recording from the Mills College Center for Contemporary Music in 1993. In 1996 she completed a MFA in integrated electronics arts from Rensselear Polytechnic Institute.

STACEY KAYDEN

Stacey is the director of Smartxt, a collaboration of instructors, students, and learning specialists throughout the California Community Colleges whose mission is to integrate assistive technology tools into the general curriculum through the use of student mentors. Stacey graduated from Columbia University in 1988 and has been a High Tech Learning Specialist at Laney College in Oakland California since 1990. In addition to being an instructor, she travels throughout California for the High Tech Center Training Unit of the California Community Colleges training college staffs on applying assistive technology tools to college curriculum. In addition to training, she has developed a state wide Universal Learning program for the California Community Colleges providing faculty and students with a flexible, student-directed approach to learning using multisensory digital textbooks embedded with instructors’ learning strategies, an integrated student mentor community, and student created tutorial videos.

Through this training participants will learn about the Smartxt Universal Learning Training program offered at Community Colleges throughout the state. The Smartxt program is overseen by faculty member, Stacey Kayden, but is run by students. Faculty will learn about our different multi-sensory digital tools, how each can be adapted to specific disciplines, including math, and how our student mentors are assisting instructors with using these tools to provide on demand access to instructor’s study strategies, steps for solving math equations, and lecture.

Micah is the Educational Project Coordinator for the @ONE Project. Prior to taking on the position with @ONE, Micah was the Distance Education Network Coordinator for Mt. San Jacinto College. He managed the online delivery systems including the Blackboard Course Management and Community Portal system. Micah also taught part time for MSJC in Computer Applications and Computer Networks and Data Communications in both traditional and online modalities. He completed his undergraduate coursework in Business Information Management and graduate coursework in Instructional Technology. He is also certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist, Application Specialist, and Trainer. He also has a Blackboard Advanced Teaching and Learning certification.
