Certificate in College Teaching and Learning

Spring 2015 Institute; January 13 - 14, 2015

The program will help you become more confident and effective college instructor through an innovative, semester-length program where you will analyze and conduct research on increasing student engagement with content in your course. You’ll receive implementation support of new teaching techniques through personalized coaching conversations with the facilitators. In addition, we’ll discuss why adults engage or disengage in the college classroom, how you can develop greater cultural competency, and help you find ways to apply the latest findings from cognitive science to your teaching, so your students can become more autonomous learners and increase their chances of college success and persistence.

This course is designed for full-time professors teaching at MSJC. This unique experience is only open to 12 participants, so make sure that apply TODAY! This program follows a cohort based model, so colleagues will be expected to work collaboratively with others on studying their teaching and conduct peer observations as part of the program.

The program begins at MSJC Academy, Jan 13-14. The cohort will meet 3 more times during the Spring semester (dates TBD), and have a concluding session during Summer 2015. Participants are expected to collaboratively design and offer a faculty development workshop during MSJC Academy during August 2015. Participants who complete the program will be eligible for a small stipend.
