MS Solo and Ensemble
Spring 2024 MS S&E Report - 4/15/2024
As of today things are going smoothly in preparing for our upcoming Middle School S&E Festival this Saturday, 4/20. We have 13 full sections, which is reasonably typical for spring. Directors who are sending students have been scheduled to work. Those who failed to fill out the work assignment Google form as a part of completing their registration were given full day assignments. As always, more people requested morning than afternoon, but whenever you were scheduled, you are expected to fulfill the assignment or find a qualified substitute (see below). Some warm-up rooms are double staffed and the office will be quite full, especially in the morning. The worker schedule is available HERE. Work assignments start at 7:30 AM for morning and 12:30 for afternoon (but lunch starts at noon for everyone!). A big thank you goes out to Aaron Tenney and Kim Owens, who are hosting at Northpointe Christian, 3101 Leonard St. NE, Grand Rapids. Aaron sent out a letter and map last week via email to the listserve. If you did not receive it, make sure you are on the listserve! Instructions to join are on the front page of the D10 website.
Scratches and event time changes:
If you have time change requests or especially scratches, please report them using the Google form found HERE. All time changes must be requested here by 3:00 PM this Wednesday, 4/17 - any changes after that will be handled on-site. Scratches can continue to be submitted until 3:00 PM Thursday, 4/18. The sooner you can get us any scratches, the easier it is for us to help those who need a time change.
Other reminders:
All events must have an original score for the judge or they will receive no rating.
Label originals with student name, school name, section number, and performance time, so we can return if left at the site.
Students need to number their measures in pencil on both the adjudicator’s copy and their own copy.
Please give your students the half page Performer Sheet (one per event). We will have some on site but not enough for everyone.
If your student found their music on the internet from a public domain website please have documentation of the source it came from ready and available for the room worker. The same evidence needs to be provided for music purchased and printed from any website (proof of purchase).
All temporary Covid-era rule changes are gone. This means:
Music must be at least 90 seconds long, or students will not get a rating.
If an accompaniment exists, it must be played, or the student will not get a rating.
Work assignments have been emailed out. Student teachers may not sub for work assignments. You must switch with another director or find someone else in good standing with MSBOA. Thanks for taking care of this!
Please let me know of any issues that come up! As always, it is an honor to serve the students and directors of District 10!
