Who: 7th and 8th Grade Band Students from any District X middle school band program.
When: January 14, 2023 - please verify that the student can attend before you nominate them
Where: Rockford High School
Cost: $20 per student - this includes dinner and a medal
We are excited to announce the return of District X Middle School Honors Band. After a long hiatus we welcome back former teachers of the year Maureen Ross and Kevin Gabrielse as conductors of the 7th and 8th grade All Star Bands. Every MSBOA middle school band program is allowed to nominate students to this group. You are guaranteed one student but in most cases more of your students will be added to the group.
There is no audition. Please stress this point with your students: We place students depending on open spots. It is like a lottery situation. When you fill out your nominate form, you should rank your students in order of preference of whom you believe deserves a spot in the group. If everyone’s first choice is a tuba then not all first choices will be honored.
How many students you may nominate is dependent on your band size, which may be different for 7th and 8th grade.
Bands with 1 - 30 students may nominate 3 students. 1 brass, 1 woodwind and 1 director’s choice
Bands with 31 - 50 students may nominate 6 students. 2 brass, 2 woodwind and 2 director’s choice
Bands with more than 50 students may nominate 9 students. 3 brass, 3 woodwind and 3 director’s choice
*If you nominate a percussionist, please make sure that they are able to perform on all the percussion instruments including snare, keyboards and timpani.
Also if you send students to this event please plan on helping out by either signing up to help with sectionals or during meal times.
