Winter 2024
B&O Report Winter 2024
Schedules and work assignments are now live on MSBOA.org.
Log into MSBOA.org
Click on "View District 10 Master Schedule" under "District Reports"
Choose "2024 District X Band and Orchestra Festival" from the dropdown menu.
186 ensembles total registered for B&O Festival.
We have 14 ensembles at each traditional band site, 12 at traditional orchestra sites, and 10-12 at pilot sites for band and orchestra.
Thank you to our wonderful hosts!
If you need a different performance time, here are a few options:
Ask a specific group to switch with you. (This usually works the best. Email them and if you find a willing switch, email me to change the schedule.)
Ask the membership (via this google group) for someone to switch.
Beg your transportation department to work with you. Offer cookies and chocolate milk if it helps.
Look into the possibility of getting a charter or having parents help with transportation. I know these last options are not available to everyone, but I mention these because I have seen groups use these solutions in the past.
If you find someone to switch with, please email me so I can adjust the schedule.
I did the best I could to honor everyone's requests. Many directors (about half) asked to perform between 10:00 and 1:00. It is impossible to fit everyone who asked within this time frame. Remember that this time frame also has to include lunch.
Update Programs
Please get your program updated on MSBOA.org before 1/31. That is when I will ask the state office to print programs.
To update your program, log into MSBOA.org and follow these steps:
Click on the "B&O/Jazz/Marching Band Registration History" tab on the left.
Click "Edit" by the ensemble for which you want to edit your program.
Click on tab 4, "Program", and enter your selections.
The program will show EXACTLY what you enter here.
Please aim to have your program entered on or before the end of January.
General reminders:
Update your program before the end of January.
Please make sure that your school's directors names are updated on MSBOA.org in a timely manner.
To change your classification, call the state office.
3 original scores to receive a rating unless at a Pilot Project site where you will need 4 original scores.
Performers must be regular members of the ensemble. (Registered for the class.)
All past accommodations are no longer in effect. All regular rules apply.
Pilot Project
Same time frames as regular festival with Sight Reading - 25 minutes, including getting in and out of the room. (Or 30 min if scheduled.)
Make sure you have 4 scores for all your pieces if you are playing at a pilot project site.
Some Pilot sites will be operating with 4 adjudicators, some with 5. This will let us see if there is a significant difference in the experience between these two structures.
Hosting in the future:
Now is the time to begin looking at your calendar to host in the future. We will continue to need new hosts going forward. Please consider hosting for the future. Negotiate with you theater department for a window that allows your facilities to host festival in the future. Upcoming B&O windows for the next 3 years are on the calendar page of this website.
