Extra Help:

If a student is struggling with a concept, I expect the student to ask questions in class or ask for additional help if he/she feels it is necessary. I am available every morning starting at 7:30am and also have flexibility to help students during study skills classes and after school. It is the student’s responsibility to ask and show up for help.

Website & Google Classroom: https://sites.google.com/site/mrsgavinspage/

We will use a combination of my website and Google Classroom for Honors Algebra 2. Posted on my website are video lessons, notes and worksheets, and a class homework schedule. We will use Google Classroom as the daily starting point for all online learning with a daily to do list and a location for online learners to turn in assignments.

Cheating:

Cheating will not be tolerated and will result in a zero for a grade on the assignment. Cheating is copying answers/work/steps from another student or source on any graded assignments.

Tardy/Absent students:

Students are considered tardy if they are not in the classroom when the bell rings. Students who have been absent should check their homework schedule and my website for assignments that were missed and then when back at school check with me to receive any worksheets that were missed. It is the student’s responsibility to collect and turn in his/her missing work and get notes from a classmate. Students have as many days as they were absent to make up any work that was missed. Tests, homework, or assignments missed, because of unexcused absences or suspension, may not be made up. (These are school wide policies.)

Grading:

  • Warm Up Questions 1 point

  • Weekly Homework 2-18 points (2 points per assignment)

  • Quiz 8-50 points (most quizzes are 10 points each)

  • Test 100 points

  • Activity/Project 5-80 points

*Overall grades are determined by total points. Due to the material covered and number of days, the total points may differ from quarter to quarter.

  • 1st & 2nd quarters 40% each + 1st semester exam 20%

  • 3rd & 4th quarters 40% each + 2nd semester exam 20% or 3rd & 4th quarters 50% each if the 2nd semester exam is waived

Class Schedule:

Students are given a class schedule that they are to follow for Honors Algebra 2. The schedule consists of lists of dates, lessons covered, homework assigned, when homework is due, and when quizzes and tests will take place. The schedule will be edited throughout the school year and students will be given a new copy each time it is updated. The same class homework schedule is also posted and updated on my website.

Homework:

Homework is assigned daily, but will be collected approximately once a week, usually on a test or quiz day as noted on the schedule. It is in the students’ best interest that they complete the homework to the best of their ability each day, otherwise students risk falling behind, which in turn typically results in low quiz and test grades. The homework that is collected will be graded out of two points per daily assignment and based on the number of problems completed, amount of work shown, and number of problems correct and will be returned within two school days. Late work will only be accepted in the case of an excused absence.

Quizzes:

Approximately, once a week a short quiz will be given covering two to three sections material. Students may not use their notes, homework, book, or each other on the quizzes. The quiz will be collected and most will be graded out of 10 possible points based on the number of problems correct and returned as soon as all students have taken the quiz. All quizzes are listed on the class homework schedule. Quizzes are returned to students as soon as all students have taken the quiz.

Tests:

Tests are typically given after each chapter in the textbook and are all listed on the class homework schedule. The percentage that students score on the test is the total number of points students receive for their test grade, thus tests are based out of 100 points in Skyward. Tests occur approximately once every two to three weeks depending on the length of the chapter and the amount of time spent on each section. Tests are returned to students as soon as all students have taken the test. (Any test may be retaken for a retake score of up to 70%. Students must retake tests before a set deadline near the end of each quarter.)

Daily Expectations:

Students are to bring their book, homework, paper, pencil, calculator, and other necessary materials to class. Students are to be in their seat when the bell rings. Students should not get up from their seat or talk without permission. Sleeping in class will also not be tolerated. Any behavior that interferes with the educational environment is unacceptable. Persistent action of any of the previous behaviors will result in e-mails and/or phone calls to guardians before further action, such as detention, is taken. My expectations and the rules outlined in the Student Handbook will be strictly enforced.
