Vocabulary Scavenger Hunt

Some of you have already had experience with virtual tours. Recently we conducted a virtual field trip to the Smithsonian’s Museum of Natural History. This was the same museum that they filmed the “Night at the Museum” movies at. You can revisit that trip using this URL http://www.mnh.si.edu/vtp/1-desktop/

Today we will be conducting another virtual museum hall tour in order to complete a vocabulary scavenger hunt.

Directions: Complete the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History’s Virtual Museum Tour. You will find the tour at the following URL http://paleobiology.si.edu/dinosaurs/interactives/tour/main.html.

You will be working individually or with a partner (as directed by your teacher) to complete the vocabulary scavenger hunt that your teacher will pass out.

It is important to note that all of the vocabulary words can be found while taking the virtual tour but not all of the vocabulary words will be defined during the tour. If you come across those words you will need to find an additional resource to help you figure out the definitions.

After completing the tour you are then invited to play the Department of Paleobiology’s Virtual Dinosaur Dig game. The interactive game can be found at this URL http://paleobiology.si.edu/dinosaurs/interactives/dig/dinodig.html.

If you have the time you can also check out the Tree of Life interactive activity at this URL http://paleobiology.si.edu/dinosaurs/interactives/tree_life/tree.html.

The Smithsonian is the largest museum in the world. You are encouraged to learn about as many parts of it as you can by visiting this address http://www.si.edu/.

You can complete this scavenger hunt online or you can do it the old fashioned way and fill out the handout that your teacher has available for you.
