Google Earth Quest

This quest will virtually take you around the world. What you will need to do is pretty simple; use Google Maps and Google Earth to learn more about famous locations all around the globe.

Use the "View" link below for the Google Maps "Virtual Tours and Webcams" to open a new window. There you will find a long list of famous place you might want to visit on the left. Some of these places might be known to you while many will not. All of these locations have webpages you can visit where you can learn much more about them. Some of them have 360 degree and panoramic views. Some of them have virtual tours. Some of them have 3-D views and photographs. Some of these links are old so if you try and visit the website they listed and it is not there, do not panic! If this happens, use Google to do a search to find a different website.

You will use the 2nd link to download a KML file. Once you have downloaded it you will double click it to open in Google Earth. This part is kinda tricky so ask your teacher if you run into difficulties. When you do you will see the same locations that you saw in Google Maps in teh menu on the left-hand side of the screen. I want you to use Google Earth to see where on the globe the location you're visiting actually is.

When you've found a location (or locations) that you want to learn more about, I want you to list 3 things that you learned that you didn't know before. Even if you think you know everything about the place you visited I'm positive that there are more details about it that you didn't think about.

Once you have gathered up those three new things you are then to go to the third link on this page titled "Earth Quest Notes". On this page you will record your name, the location you visited, and the 3 new details you discovered about this place. If you have more than one place that you visited you can do the same for it. You can do this with up to three locations. Once you are done, hit the submit button and the form will send me the information. If you are not quite finished, the form assures me that you can go back and finish it later. If not, don't panic. We can still make use of the information you've found.

When you are finished with your presentation you will then be instructed on how to upload it to Dropbox using an online app called DropitTOme. so that I may review it. You will be given explicit instructions that need to be followed to the letter to complete this final task.
