See this video for how to put the reed on the mouthpiece correctly. Never touch the tip of your reed (it will break). Soak it in clean water for about 10 - 15 seconds. Do not put it in your mouth until it's already nice and wet - from water! Everything else he says is correct.

Here's a good mouthpiece embouchure set for sax. This shows how to put the mouthpiece in your mouth and blow. He's using a clarinet, but it's the same idea with a sax.

This is the first, basic scale on alto sax. It's the G scale (also known as concert B flat)

Here is another version of the G (concert Bb) scale on an alto. Watch how she curls up her fingers. Don't do that! Keep your fingers relaxed as of you're holding a softball at your side.
