Mr. Powell was born in Hollywood, California and has lived in Eugene, Oregon since 1980.
He spent two years in Paris France as a street musician in the mid 1980's and played in Saint Étienne, France for a year in the early 90's.
Mr. Powell is recently retired from public school education, though he is was a substitute teacher .... (Mr. Powell left the local school district due to their tracking, monitoring, and pervasive surveillance of teachers, staff and {even worse} children) he teaches privately and is involved in various bands.
He began his public school teaching career in 1999.
He currently performs in the Eugene/Springfield Community Orchestra on various instruments and The Invisible Arts Project on saxes, clarinets and flute. His newest musical project is with his friend Frank Tarrentino in the group Bass N' Reeds. Frank plays stand up bass and Mr. Powell plays a variety of wind instruments, strings and percussion.
Mr. Powell runs the All High School Jazz Band that performs in our region during the school year. We are taking a break during this summer.
He also has just become the director of the baddest band in Eugene, the One More Time Marching Band.
Mr. and Mrs. Powell, and their seven children are avid gardeners and food preservers because, well, they like good food.
