Bell Ringer: Name 3 applications of lenses
Mirror and Lens Terminology
focal length (f) = the distance from the lens or mirror to the point where parallel incoming beams of light converge after striking the lens or mirror.
Center of curvature (C) = the point at the center of the imaginary sphere that the mirror was cut out of. C = 2f
Object distance (do) = the distance from the lens or mirror the the physical object
Image distance (di) = the distance from the lens or mirror to the screen where the image is projected
Object height (ho) = how tall the object is
Image height (hi) = how tall the image is
Types of mirror and lenses
Concave = the mirror or lens curves away from the object (like the object is looking into a very small cave)
Convex = the mirror or lens curves toward the object
Types of images
real = image is projected onto a screen
virtual = no image on screen, image is "inside" the mirror or lens
no image = no image on screen or "inside" the mirror or lens
inverted = upside-down
erect = right side up
