Bell Ringer: What is the density of a 100 g piece of metal with a volume of 25 mL?
Review: how to find density
Irregular objects
Fill a graduated cylinder to one of the marked lines with water. Make note of what level the water is at.
Carefully drop the object into the water.
Make note of the new water level.
Subtract the old water level from the new one. The change in water level is the volume of your object.
Blocks (box shapes)
Use a ruler to measure the length, width, and height of the block. Measure in cm.
Use the equation V = l*w*h to find the volume of the block in mL.
Cylinders
Measure the height and diameter of the cylinder.
Divide the diameter by two to find the radius of the cylinder.
Use the equation V = pi*r*r*h to find the volume of the cylinder in mL.
