Mr. Aubin’s Science Introduction Letter
Salutations! I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself- I’m Mr. Aubin, your student’s science teacher at South. Please know that I have the highest character and academic expectations for all my students.
As your student’s first assignment, he/she is to go through this discussion guide with you. The bottom portion of this paper is due no later than Monday 8/22/11 so please take 5 minutes to discuss strategies for success with your student and provide me with some information.

1. Please take a moment to discuss the following with your student:
o The school planner (distributed the first day of school) is where ALL assignments will be written for student accountability both to the parent(s)/ guardian(s) and Mr. Aubin.
o Mr. Aubin can be reached via email or phone at the above address and number.
o Failure to meet expectations will result in lunch discussion/ tutoring.
o Students are expected to make up excused absences during tutoring with a 1-day grace period (Adar missed Monday, her work is due Wednesday).
o Assignments, syllabus and in depth expectations can be accessed at Mr. Aubin’s web site ( https://sites.google.com/site/mraubinsite/ ).
o Please have a conversation with your student regarding:
§ Where would be a good place to study?
§ How time for academics will fit into his/ her schedule?
§ What he/ she needs to do to get to class on time?
§ What he/ she will do to be well fed and rested?

*Expectations (General, more specific posted in class):
Hall passes: Students are given 2 passes a semester and its use is at my discretion. Students should visit the restroom prior to or after class.
Food and Drink: Are not allowed in the lab for safety reasons.
Homework: Must be written in school planner. Failure to do homework will require that you attend tutoring (MTF 250-330) to receive partial credit.
Late work: Only accepted during tutoring time within 7 calendar days of due date. This is NOT to be turned in any other time as a discussion is necessary.
Seating: There is a seating chart posted on the communication board for reference.
Raising Hand: Hands are to be raised for questions- shouting out makes it impossible to communicate.
Required Materials: Planner, 2 inch binder (not smaller), pen
Late work: Only accepted during tutoring time within 7 calendar days of due date. This is NOT to be turned in any other time.
Cheating: The student will receive a “0”.
*Failure to meet high general or specific expectations will result in a lunch discussion with Mr. Aubin.
Grading:
Group Work……………. 33% of grade. Averaged from each member’s grade on the following:
Labs (Group average/70)
Quizzes (Group average/ 50)
Group role……………….20 points each random sample.
Homework/class work…. 33% of grade
20 points each assignment
Labs…………………….70 points each
Tests/ Quizzes…………..33% of grade
Quizzes…………………50 points each
Tests…………………….200 points each
