Queen of Heaven Cemetery

Cemetery Decorations

The following policy applies to the decorating of gravesites at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery to help maintain the natural beauty and simplicity of the cemetery. This policy is also to assist Mount Saint John Facilities in its care and maintenance of the cemetery.

  1. Floral pieces, baskets, and other articles placed on a grave following a burial will be removed as they become wilted or unsightly or as necessary for maintenance operations.

  2. Cut flowers, artificial flowers, and potted plants are permitted. All such flowers and plants will be removed when mowing or trimming grass. All decorations should be set on the ground, not dug into the turf.

  3. Wrought iron urns, vigil lights, and glass are not permitted and will be removed immediately.

Burial Ceremony Procedures

  1. Weather permitting and ground conditions permitting, the entire Committal Service, burial, and prayers will be at the gravesite.

  2. If the weather is inclement or the ground conditions unfavorable, the Committal Service will be held in the cemetery chapel.

  3. If the ground conditions are hazardous, those who wish to view the burial will be asked to participate from the road by the cemetery.

  4. Those who do not want to go to the gravesite will be invited to go to the reception (if one is planned) but will be informed that the reception will start only when the family and others arrive after the gravesite prayers.
