Celebration of the Sacraments

Weddings

Catholic weddings are celebrated at Mount Saint John only for couples who are members of the Queen of Apostles Community or who are related to Marianist Family members (with the permission of the Queen of Apostles Community and the proper permission of their home parishes).

  1. Weddings at Mount Saint John may be celebrated only in the Queen of Apostles Chapel. Weddings may not be celebrated outdoors per the Archdiocese of Cincinnati[1].

  2. Secular weddings and weddings of other Christian and other religious traditions may not be celebrated at Mount Saint John.

  3. Wedding parties must provide their own liability insurance for the wedding itself.

  4. Wedding parties must provide liability insurance for the reception if it is held at Mount Saint John (i.e., in the Si Lounge of Sieben Hall, when permitted by the Queen of Apostles Community).

  5. Wedding receptions may not be held in the Madeleine Room.

  6. Permission for professional photography at Mount Saint John is granted for approved weddings held in the Queen of Apostles Chapel.

Eucharistic Celebrations

  1. Eucharistic Celebrations must be celebrated in a chapel that is properly appointed and dedicated for this sacred purpose.

  2. Mass in the Bergamo Center may be celebrated in the Roncalli Assembly or in the Mary, Mother of Mercy Chapel (in the lower level) during retreats or other programs hosted by the Bergamo Center.

  3. The Marianist Novitiate and Meyer Hall Marianist Community residences have chapels for the private celebration of Masses according to the Rule of Life of the Society of Mary and its canonical status.

  4. The Eucharist is not normally celebrated out of doors. On the rare occasion that warrants an outdoor Mass at Mount Saint John, permission must be granted first from the Marianist Province of the United States and then also from the Archbishop of Cincinnati.

  5. All other Masses must be celebrated in the Queen of Apostles Chapel.

Other Sacramental Celebrations

All other Sacramental celebrations, including anniversaries, baptisms, weddings, and funerals, must be celebrated in the Queen of Apostles Chapel. Permissions and Sacramental records must be through the Queen of Apostles Community.

Any exceptions to the above policies must receive approval and permission from the Marianist Province of the United States through the Chair of the Mount Saint John Campus Council at RMetzger@sm-usa.org and, if necessary, the Archbishop of Cincinnati.

[1]Ordinarily, the wedding ceremony would take place in the parish church of the Catholic party. It may take place in another Catholic church with the permission of the pastor of the Catholic party and the pastor of the place of the ceremony. It may take place in a chapel with the permission of the Archbishop and/or, in certain circumstances, the permission of the pastor of the parish in whose boundaries the chapel is located. The Archbishop may permit the celebration to take place in another suitable place but will not grant permission for the wedding to take place out-of-doors.
