(Update 23/7/2017)
" Develop and maintain our infrastructure (buildings, tracks, fences, signs) to be useful but not intrusive."
Background:
The safety, comfort, education and enjoyment of visitors and volunteers depend in the infrastructure.
This may be tracks, shelters, seats, toilets, signs.
There are also fences and water points for stock. This all needs to be planned for, funded and maintained.
Much of the seating, fences and tracks are erected and maintained by volunteers, schools and community groups.
The photo gallery has photos of much of the infrastructure.
Objectives:
To improve the safety, education and wilderness experience of visitors without being too intrusive.
Maintain any other necessary infrastructure, such as boundary fence and stock water.
Ensure the level of infrastructure is in keeping with the level of need by the public, and is affordable and safe.
Strategies:
Ensure there are systems to develop and maintain different types of infrastructure. (signs, fences, water, buildings, etc)
Ask feedback from the visiting public about what is needed.
Source and allocate available funds and labour to satisfy the need.
Actions:
maintain the walking tracks in a safe condition.
Install unobtrusive seating at various points along the tracks.
Maintain the interpretive signs and deal with rust.
Improve the guards which protect the signs from cattle.
maintain the integrity of the rabbit proof fence.
Develop a management plan for the Mount Elephant Centre.
Ensure that there is current insurance on infrastructure.
