WV Division Nat. Res., Law Enforcement Section donates fishing equipment to the Mountaineer Chapter IWLA
NEWS RELEASE FROM THE WVDNR
POACHERS TOOLS RECYCLED TO PROVIDE CHILDREN WITH THE CHANCE TO ENJOY THE GREAT OUTDOORS!
The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources, Law Enforcement Section, District 3 was pleased to announce the donation of 43 fishing rods and reels to the Mountaineer Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. The Mountaineer Chapter has been heavily involved with the state's Natural Resources Police Officers in providing children with the opportunity to enjoy hunting and fishing through Youth Conservation Days, Jakes Day Programs and HOFNOD (Hooked On Fishing Not On Drugs) activities.
The WV Division of Natural Resources Police Officers regularly impound and/or seize fishing equipment from people they find in violation of our Natural Resources laws. If the suspects cited for these violations are not repeat offenders, the property taken is returned after the court proceedings and fines are paid. Many of these people do not return to pick up their property and the property may not be returnable to repeat offenders.
According to state law, after 6 month the property is considered abandoned, and forfeited to the Treasurers Office for disposal. Property found to be of value is reported on the required paperwork and may be donated to non-profit organizations.
The Law Enforcement Section of the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources and non-profit organizations they work with believe it would be a terrible waste to dispose of such property in the local landfill when it can be better used to promote hunting and fishing by the youth of the great State of West Virginia. In most cases this property is utilized by these non-profit organizations to introduce the state's youth to outdoor sporting programs. The Division of Natural Resources Police Officers find it very rewarding to provide an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors to the children of WV.
