Guillemard, Cruise of the Marchesa

F(rancis) H(enry) H(ill) Guillemard.  The cruise of the Marchesa to Kamschatka & New Guinea with notices of Formosa, Liu-Kiu, and various islands of the Malay Archipelago.  1886.

The frontispiece of each octavo volume of the first published edition of this work included a hand-colored plate by Keulemans.  He also contributed many line drawings, which appeared in the text.

A very similar illustration of this species appeared as Plate XXXIV in the 1885 edition of the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London.  It was signed by J(oseph) Smit, and however the similarity, the plate in Guillemard is authentic to Keulemans' style and certain subtleties of detail (though Keulemans' signature is not evident).
