LIS 5733: Evaluation Methods

This course introduced evaluation methods for library resources and services. Through assignments, lectures and readings we learned about the purpose and practice of creating an evaluation plan.

Learning objectives addressed:

• Understand best practices for offering of reference services
• Gain skills to effectively implement technology
• Understand the logistics of library operations
• Improve advocacy skills and understand its relation to libraries
• Learn techniques for planning and development
• Improve leadership skills

Assignment

The final deliverable of this class was an evaluation plan including a literature review, methods analysis/recommendation, plan for implementation and plan for presentation of results. After creating the evaluation plan we presented it to the class. This improved my understanding of evidenced based decision-making and how this knowledge can be used as an advocacy tool.
