Student Reflection & Course Assignment
One of the greatest gifts of Liberal arts is the ability to unify opposisitions in systems of thought. Postmodernism and mythology may to seam to be at odds, but this often is due to the tenants of their operation and opposition. Post modernism tells us that there is not a grand Meta theme viable in the contemporary experience. Mythology is all about the presence of a Meta theme. Post modernism and mythology alleged incompatibility does not take into account the hidden regions of human expedience that need a wholeness of living, and a facility in human consciousness to build a meaning into the world. Humans will always make new myths to survive Post modernisms is not that inhospitable to mythology. In this essay I will show how these two theories that seem at odds are harmonized in Kurt Vonnegut’s science fiction Novel Player Piano.
