Rust removal on some of the smaller parts has begun. The hope is to get a lot of the little stuff painted in the next week and set aside while I finish up the column and base. The first batch of parts soaked in the Evaporust for 24-36 hours or so. They were removed, rinsed in water, and wiped dry. Then, most of them were dipped back in the Evaporust and allowed to sit and air dry as a temporary rust preventative as described on the label. After that batch of parts were rinsed, dipped, and set aside, the next batch went into the soak for 24 hours. Most of these parts likely could have gone 2 hours or so, but I had work, so they all got a full 24 hours.
A photo of the Z axis crank after soaking for 24 hours or so partially submerged (wouldn't fit completely in the first batch) You can see the different between the rusty and derusted areas.
Completely derusted crank after rinsing and drying. Ready for primer and paint!
The first batch of parts out of the Evaporust. X and Y cranks, outboard arbor support, saddle, Z-axis crank housing, spindle seal sleeve and nut.
Second batch of small parts starting their soak.
The spindle housing before and after cleaning and rust removal. A little bit like a time machine.
Some of the second batch. Spindle housing, X axis lead screw support, Z axis crank, X axis dial and collar, Yaxis lead screw, Y axis dial, and collar.
