Né à Zwickau, en Saxe, le 8 juin 1810 — mort à Endenich, le 29 juillet 1856.

Son père, éditeur à Zwickau, est aussi un auteur de romans chevaleresques et de divers lexiques, traducteur de Walter Scott et de Lord Byron, il publie un périodique. Sa mère, Johanna Christiana Schnabel, et la fille d'un chirurgien.

Il débute le piano avec Johann Gottfried Kuntsch, organiste à Sant Marien de Zwickau, un musicien très actif de la ville. Schumann suit sa scolarité dans une école privée.....
