If you using a cab, you may someday encounter communication problems in it use. This is true if you plugged into the cab panel using the cable or with radio cabs. As with many problems, there are clues as to what the problem might be if one looks at the details of what you know. That information combined with this information, can help you solve you communication problems.
Communication problems are broken down into two classes.

PLUG IN PROBLEMS
Below is the diagram of communication between the Cab and the Command Station (CS)
Cab/Throttle<--> Cab Bus <--> Command Station
1) POWER PROBLEMS
TEST:
ProCab or Cab06: Display does not come on.
Cab04, Cab05: Led does not flash when you press any button or LED gets stuck and I have no control.
CHECKS
a) If is only happens in one particular Panel Jack, check the jack for wire contacts misaligned or out of position. Compare to other Jacks.
b) If this happens no matter what Panel Jack you use or just a subset of them, then check for a broken or intermittent Cab Cable on the layout side behind the facia. Moving equipment around under the layout could have accidentally put undue stress on the cable and broken a connection. Start by plugging in the cab directly into the command station cab bus jack. If that works, follow that cable to the next UTP (throttle panel) and test the cab there. When you find the panel were it stops working, then the cable between this panel and the last working panel is the problem. There is one possible exception. If you use external power to "repower" the cab bus, verify the power supply itself is alive. If the system is on but the power supply is off, that is the problem. A quick check is to unplug the power supply from the back. If power is restored, the power supply is the problem. It may have become unplugged on the AC power side.
c) If moving the cab cable around side to side causes restoration of Power, then the cab cable itself might be bad. Try another cable from a working cab.
d)If replacing the cable does not fix it, it may the jack on the cab side that is broken. Check the jack for wire contacts misaligned or out of position. Compare to other Jacks.
2) CONTROL PROBLEMS
PROCAB: Garbage Display when running a train. This can be caused by a variety of problems. Yes unplugging and replugging in can fix the display problem, a faster way is to simply to press the "ENTER" key. However the cause of the problem is typically traced to a bad cable problem on the throttle or a down rev radio system is connected. Yes even though the Procab your using may not be a radio throttle, it can still be effected by the radio base station. You need to have the radio system upgrade accross the board to solve the problem.
