MODELS COVERED: CAB06E / CAB06P / CAB06ER / CAB06PRPART NUMBERS:CAB06E: 524-39 ENCODER CABCAB06ER: 524-40 ENCODER CAB with radio (and toggle switch)CAB06P: 524-43 POTENTIOMETER CABCAB06PR: 524-44 POTENTIOMETER CAB with radio (and toggle switch)DESCRIPTION:
The CAB06 is offered as a step up above a simpler Engineer Cab (Cab04/5) but below a ProCab both in price and capabilities. However it is still classified as an Engineer Cab which becomes very important in radio operation mode. It has all the features of an Engineer cab but replaces the "Option" key with a "Shift/Esc" key. The shift key expands the keyboard capability to have all of the keys support "shifted functions". By default this gives the Cab06 easy access to all 29 functions and up to 6 recalls all at the same time.
ALPHA-NUMERICAL LED DISPLAY:
Normally the LED alpha-numerical display only shows locomotive number. Locomotive speed is NOT shown.
The 4 LED Dots under the alpha-numerical show status:
1) F Lighted when locomotive going Forward
2) R Lighted when locomotive going Reverse
3) 1 & 2 (both) OFF when at Shift Level 0 (Keys perform as labeled function. No shift)
4) 1 Lighted when at Shift Level 1 (Think shift key like on an advanced calculator. Access to shifted functions.
5) 2 Lighted when at Shift Level 2 (Think double shift)
6) 1 & 2 (both) Lighted when at Shift Level 3 (Think triple shift)
Shift level rolls back to Level 0 if you keep pressing shift.
There is a Cheat Sheet printed on the back of the cab to remind you what functions you can access for a given shift level.
The display will show the following alpha-numerical 3 or 4 letter acronyms when in Cab Setup Mode :
1) Adxx: Cab is in Cab setup mode waiting for you to enter a cab address.
2) nor : Cab is in Cab setup mode with the cab Knob set to operate as a normal speed control.
3) Ard : Cab is in Cab setup mode with the cab Knob set to operate in YARD mode with BOTH speed and direction control.
4) BALx: Cab is in Cab setup mode allowing you to set the Knob Ballistics. Think knob sensitivity to your turn speed.
5) SH x: Cab is in Cab setup mode allowing you limit the number of shift levels allowed. Allows one to prevent wondering fingers causing cab operation confusion.
PRODUCTION STATUS:
All in current production.
ALTERNATIVE CABS:
None. NCE has discontinued all other versions of the small cab.
CAB HISTORY:
This is NCE's newest cab offered in both plug in and radio operation. The CAB06 has evolved over time. NCE originally only offered the encoder version. Later NCE decided to offer the Pot version after multiple request. Radio is supported when it was installed. Add a R suffix after the CAB06 name when ordering.
PowerPro System Compatibility (Does not apply to PowerCab or SB3a/SB5 based systems):
The Cab06 is first cab to use some features developed long ago inside the PowerPro DCC system. Unfortunately the features did not work correctly and as a consequence, a software upgrade of the PowerPro system is required depending on which version of the Power Pro you have.
What is the problem? Locomotive numbers above 4095 will not display properly but the cab will work.
How do I tell I need it? If the Command Stations Eprom (Software) date is:
1) 3/01/2007, or 3/01/2007A then it needs to be upgraded.
2) 3/01/2007B or 3/01/2007C then it is okay for use with the cab06.
