MRU Scholarship Program

MRU is offering for the 9th consecutive year a scholarship program for graduating high school seniors.  There will be a minimum of two (2) $2500.00 scholarships provided in 2025.  These are known as the Kathleen Kelley and Marie Ardito Scholarships.  The application along with supportive documentation must be postmarked by the application deadline of APRIL 23, 2025.

The following are the eligibility requirements:

1.      Any applicant for the MRU scholarships shall be the son/daughter, nephew/niece, grandson/granddaughter, or grandnephew/grandniece, etc., of a dues-paying member in good standing for at least 1 year prior to the date of the application of April 23, 2025.

2.      Applicants must be graduating high school seniors of that application year.

3.      Scholarships will be awarded based on the student’s academic record, school activities, community service, employment records and an essay.

4.      Scholarships will be awarded only to first year school/college students.

5.      Applicants must be attending a one (1) year program, a two (2) or four-year (4) college/university.

Students will be required to submit a completed paper scholarship application and an official high school transcript

If awarded a MRU scholarship, said scholarship will be provided to the student for 2nd semester expenses only upon receipt of the 1st semester school/college transcript and the 2nd semester tuition/fees/room and board bill from your school/university.

Required Documents:

An official transcript from your high school including term 3 of your senior year.  

A separate sheet listing by grade, your 1) school, 2) community, and 3) volunteer activities during your high school career.

A separate sheet listing, by grade, employment during the school years and summers, as well as names of employers/supervisors and telephone #s.

An essay written on a separate piece of paper with your name at the top and attached to this application.

Essay Question

In a well-organized essay, describe the teacher who has had the biggest impact on you.  Use specific examples in your essay.  The suggested length for this essay is approximately 250 words.

You have the option to provide additional information about your circumstances that may be pertinent to this application.   Please attach a separate sheet to this application if you choose this option.

Completed applications along with all supportive documentation, must be postmarked no later than April 23, 2025, and mailed to the following address:  Massachusetts Retirees United, Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 4015, Chelmsford, MA   01824-0615.

If awarded an MRU scholarship, the scholarship will be provided to the student for 2nd semester expenses only upon receipt of official copies of the 1st semester transcript and the 2nd semester tuition/fees/room and board bill from your school or college.
