Statement Regarding Social Media
Social Media has had a significant impact on our current society and culture. Student-athletes should be aware that nothing they post online will EVER be totally private or EVER fully disappear. "Delete" does not have the same meaning online that it does in standard English.
We will have a zero tolerance policy in our program. Swimmers may certainly view and use social media on their own such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and whatever else becomes the new tool de riguer, but they are expected to refrain from commenting in any way regarding our program, teammates, coaches, officials, administrators, or anyone in any way connected with our school(s), other schools or teams. Freedom is not license. With freedom comes responsibility and the expectation that all members of our program will conduct themselves online in a manner that shows respect, maturity, and integrity. Teammates who are unable to live up to this expectation will be addressed individually, with loss of relay positions, meet participation, team participation, or referral to school discipline procedures all possible outcomes.
It is the position of this coaching staff that all participants have an expectation of privacy during team practices and events, and an expectation of mutual respect. In keeping with this, it is preferred that your cellphones do not enter the locker room. Knowing that this is not always avoidable, wait to make calls, texts, or respond to calls or texts until you are out of the locker room.
