Employability Skills
For All Mr. Heimer’s Classes
Employability Skill Points
You can earn a total of 600 points for the semester. Once your parent letter is turned in you will earn 500 points. You gain points for having all assignments turned in with A’s or B’s, no unexcused absences and 3 or less tardies. Having your photography selected for art and photography shows and displays and helping out in class, always being on-task, being a good classmate, no sleeping, appropriate cellphone usage, appropriate language etc., will also earn points.
You will lose points for the following:
Breaking school/class/computer rules — points determined by severity of infraction.
For missing assignments you will lose 300 points per assignment. When the assignment is completed and turned in for grading the points are given back.
Tardy points are a separate grade. 400 points for tardies and tracked separately:
Tardy 20 points each
Employability skills are skills that you need to have when you are employed. Skills, like showing up to work on time, showing up to work when scheduled, being on-task (doing the job you were asked to do), and being respectful to your co-workers and boss are just some of the skills required to be successful in a job. Employers also want employees to do the best work they can.
These skills translate directly to the classroom. When you don’t show up to class or come to class late you disrespect your classmates and the teacher and miss information that the teacher has presented. When you turn assignments in late or work that is not your best you are telling me that your work is not important to you. When you are rude, loud, off-task, sleeping, disrupting the class you are preventing yourself or others from learning.
Losing your employability skill points and attendance points can change your overall grade for example from an “A” to a “B” or “D” to an “F”, or in extreme cases from an “A” to an “F”.* Employability skills are an important part of your overall grade in this class. Below is the full employability skills information sheet.
*As a note, It is extremely hard, if not impossible, to fail my class if all assignments are turned in. Usually the Employability points help 95% students.
