I'm utterly frustrated with how I don't find the time to do the things I want to do.
I keep hearing that this is only about time management, so let's see.
How can I better manage my time?
Maja 22Jan17 - I did the class 2.4, so I will try to apply the framework of designing - we'll see how it goes
Maja 25Feb17 - Planner doesn´t work for me. I have a lot of time that is not planned and I end up wasting it. I have to keep myself disciplined and remember about all the little things that need to be done. For some very unreasonable reason I keep "thinking" (not really thinking) that sitting in front of the computer makes me relaxed, even when I´m doing stupid things and it makes me feel worse.
When I manage to spend time productively - I feel much better.
Maja 22Jan17 - So first step - observe. I will write down very precisely what was I doing all day for one week and then see where am I loosing time and what can be do about it.
Here is the spreadsheet with that
Maja 25Feb17 - I need to get off the habit of wasting my time in front of the computer. From my past I know that I can go into the spiral of action and satisfaction, I just need to not give in to procrastination - keep myself stimulated and motivated.
the main reason for which I waste a lot of time is this attitude that doing something requiers effort and I deserve to rest. Also - I seem to be unable to really rest.
Maja 10Feb17 - I have found no time in the spreadsheet (look at - observation) that I could use more productively. I have also noticed, that when I have intention of writing down what I do every minute I do manage to do much more - I don't let myself to stop even for 5 mins - every time when I finish one thing I need to have another one in mind. Also - that was the time when Jose was out so I had to do a bit more.
Following Stef's advice I continued reading Covey's "7 Habits", especially habit 2 and 3.
And so I added to the spreadsheet the quadrants - I tried to identify to which quadrants my activities belong. As you can see there, most of the time I spend on Quadrant II, second one is Quadrant I, then Quadrant IV - this is how I relax. Quadrant III is very rare. That seems to corelate quite well with what Covey suggest would be the best way.
But I don't want to stop there.
Maja 25Feb17 - I need to find few ways that are a reliable way to really rest and relax for me and stick to them.
I should check much more often Plans for 8thLife and see what useful I could do. And also keep a list of my ideas about what I could be doing. For my designs, my learning etc. And most important - just DO. Through my experience I can see that when I don´t go into any justification or lazy thoughts (and I do recognize them) and just DO - this is how I go into the cycle of action and satisfaction. So see next steps
Maja 10Feb17 - hmh, this part of framework would be pretty much the same as "next steps" combined with "big vision".
I will fill out this planner and implement it in the following week. It is basically reflection of the design itself.
Maja 25Feb17
Since I did the spreadsheet that is supposed to be my planner, I didn´t look at it. While doing it I realised that I don´t have that many planned activities, there is loads of time free and not so many activities to fill them with - so here I´m doing observing again.
And so, even though I didn´t look at the planner, I think I implemented it quite well, it is not difficult to remember about my priorities. But so much free time makes me waste it quite a lot.
So I will be going back to the beginning of the design process as I see that this planner thing doesn´t really work for me.
Maja 25Feb17 - I made some observation and am adjusting my approach - see the things above starting from observation again.
I watched this video which I like. It´s coherent with what Covey says. The more I hear about it the better - We have all the time in the world and it´s all about priorities.
Dialogue
Maja 25Feb17 - updated. Going through the design process form the beginning, and vision support group questions updated. Also motivating song at the top ;)
Maja 10Feb17 - updated
Stef 22Jan17 - GREAT that you're doing this and that you now have declared Saturdays as your time for focusing on your design portfolio work!!
"- make one day per week for focusing on designs and learning iPC - Saturday!"
IF you keep to this I think it's enough to make a BIG difference :)
Great coincidence' (or not?) that it is the same day as our online support group for Academy students :)
Let me know how I can support you in this ok.
I just added you to the english Diploma group on skype (iPC Diploma Group, see my design page for this here) which I hope you will find helpful, since basically the diploma pathway is a way to get a support group in documenting your designs.
And plse note that this time-design thing is THE no.1 complaint / difficulty I notice ALL of our students (& tutors..) have* ... and it helps a lot to just relax and not beat ourselves up about it :)
*(eg. see Tiago's vision support grp for today)
Maja 22Jan17 - did that - let's see how it goes
What is good is that I have found out that I indeed have plenty of time - I just waste it! :)
Maja 10Feb17 - I finished the observation and thanks to Covey's 3rd Habit I have an idea for the design - basically I will try out what he proposes. It was really good to go back to his book, I feel much more motivated and excited!
Maja 22Jan17 - I accept the version of reality that says that it's all about time management, so instead of despairing I decided to try again to do something constructive about it. I have a brilliant support as always! Abena recommended this tool : pomodoro technique
I already introduced technique of writing down the things that come to my mind and distract me and coming back to them with Stef or someone else when the times for it comes, so I can stay in the present time.
Maja 25Feb17 - fighting very persistent and old habit of procrastination and feeding my brain with bullshit. It´s amazing how ingraved it is in me!
Maja 10Feb17 - at the time I don't see any difficulties
Maja 22Jan17 - there are so many fascinating and exciting things to do, I want to do them all! I want to do enough to feel that I contribute enough but that requiers discharging - not doing more, so the most difficult part is that emotions get in my way of actually using my time in the most effective way possible.
I'm lazy, grumpy and negative. Thinking about things to do makes me feel very heavy instead of excited.

- observe my day - be vigilant!, write it down
- and then analyze and see what comes up
- make one day per week for focusing on designs and learning iPC - Saturday!
Maja 22Jan17 - My day is full of diverse, interesting activities! I use all the time I can to do productive work, I am very relaxed about it. I am confident and clear about if I can do more and if so - how much. I also have enough of relaxing time.
I am the master of my own time.
