Research Activities

Towards the development of a biosensor using mesoporous materials.

Work summary:

Study of the adsorption of anti IgG onto mesoporous silicates and their subsequent binding of Gamma IgG antigen. Synthesis of mesoporous silicate materials and their characterisation. The generation of adsorption isotherms from the adsorption of enzymes onto the external and internal surfaces of mesoporous silicates. Synthesis of new mesoporous carbon materials using mesoporous silicates as templates, their characterization and examination of their electrochemical properties when redox proteins are immobilised onto their surfaces.

Methods: Chemical synthesis (reactors, refluxing, calcination). XRD, ASAP, TEM, Raman (for characterisation). Voltammetry. Spectroscopy (enzyme adsorption).
