SUMMER ASSIGNMENT 2020 AP English Language & Composition

Link to Google Doc

Hi 10th Grade English students :),

This is Mr. Brunak, and (with the help of your current 10th Grade English teacher and our amazing librarian, Nancy Sullivan) I’m hoping to reach out to you to help get you ready for next year (whatever that might look like), and making AP English Language and Composition make sense.

Like most teachers around the country of this course, I provide a SUMMER ASSIGNMENT (OPTIONAL - ENRICHMENT under current conditions) that “plants the seed” for what we’ll be doing in class next year, in preparation for our exam and – more importantly – writing at a college-level.

The AP ENGLISH LANGUAGE & COMPOSITION SUMMER ASSIGNMENT (posted on Madison High School’s website – please scroll down :)) is last year’s; however, the requirements have stayed the same (in brief, you are writing a 2-3 essay/paper – double-spaced – where you will explain what you believe the AUTHOR’S PURPOSE, for a (appropriately challenging) NON-FICTION BOOK of your choosing.

From our librarian Ms. Sullivan – contact her at nsulliva@pps.net

“Here is a list of all simultaneous use YA and Adult ebooks and audiobooks that we have access to in SORA right now. I'd love to instruct students on how to access these through the PPS Library Catalog. There are many other ways to access free ebooks beyond this list, too. One place to look is on the MHS Library website: Read, Write, Listen, Watch, Do, Create during COVID-19” English tab at the bottom."

Please contact me (gbrunak@pps.net) IF you need help selecting a book (lots to choose from on the list provided on-line), OR if you believe you have an APPROPRIATE BOOK NOT ON THE LIST THAT YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO CONSIDER.

Good luck, keep reading, and stay safe,

Mr. Brunak
