Bernard & Joseph's Father and Mother
https://sites.google.com/site/macmenaminfamily/bernard-joseph_parents
they lived in England, The MacMenamin's left Ireland during the Potato Famine - Joseph married Mary and along with Mary's brother came to Dublin and started the Tie Company.
Bernard went to Dublin and married Alice Gerard, They had three children, then left for America https://sites.google.com/site/macmenaminfamily/Ireland
Joseph Patrick MacMenamin (1877) is the older brother of Bernard John Brian MacMenamin(1880) (some references in Peter's tree say Joseph & Bernard were 1/2 brothers?? )
Any information about their life in England and before that Ireland would be greatly appreciated.

Joseph & Mary MacMenamin
Joseph(1877) is Bernard's (1880) older brother.
Joseph (Birth 1877) and Mary (Birth 1880-1920) (Nee Corcoran) met in London – in the Bermondsey area that you mention in respect of Bernard.
They were married (1d. 503)in July 1904 in Bermondsey, London in Saint Olafe's Church in Southwark (now gone)
in the 1905 England Census they are listed at living at 13 Tranton Road, 4 rooms, ground floor, unfurnished, no children yet and Stephen O'leary has one room on the first floor furnished with E MacMenamin.
Shortly after their marriage – they came back to Ireland – and you located the record of them in the 1911 census – living in Washington St.
Joseph set up a tie making company in Dublin shortly after arriving here, his first venture was in boot polish – not certain whether he set up a company or was employed in one – I think the former but if it was it didn’t last – so the tie company came next – called the Central Tie Company, CTC. The CTC – developed a women’s section – started by Mary – this section of the business was called Cetecia – women’s night wear and underwear. This lasted for Joseph’s life time. They sold the company on their retirement sometime in the 1980s. On the 1911 Irish census you will see listed one Henry Corcoran listed as a lodger; he was Mary’s oldest brother and is listed in London in 1901 aged 24 as a tie cutter and again in Dublin 1911 age 34 – also tie cutter and it would appear that he brought the tie making skill into the company.

Joseph & Mary with their 7 children
Joseph, listed himself, his wife Mary and his lodger Henry (Corcoran - Mary's brother) as being born in Dublin. They were not, they were clearly born in London. I can only guess at why this error was entered but I do not believe that it was a simple error, neither do any of my relatives that I have asked. I think it had to do with the political times and the republican movement. He was not directly involved in an active sense but would certainly have supported Irish Nationalism – as indeed did his brother Bernard it appears.
The other curious thing is that he does not appear to be listed in any census in the UK yet he clearly lived there – indeed I see no record of Bernard in the UK either. Someone earlier had left Ireland in or around the famine times from a village called Kesh in Co Fermanagh – now in N Ireland. I don’t know Joseph & Bernard’s parents names – though Joseph seems a good guess.
