COVENEY (new)

Keveney, Kevany, Geaveney1) Locality: From the village of Coveney in Cambridgeshire, England; the place name derives from the Old English pre-7th century personal name 'Cofa' + 'eg' (island)2) In Ireland it may be of English origin, or more likely is a form of MacCoveney.  This small clan, mainly recorded in County Kilkenny where they held the barony of Crannagh, is claimed to descend from MacCoibheanaigh, the son of a chief killed in battle
