School Instruments
Live Oak has a limited inventory of band and orchestra instruments. If needed, we will do our best to provide your child with an instrument. I always recommend to parents that they find an instrument for their child. Start with your family and friends; ask and find out if any of them were in band and if their instrument is still around. Instruments can be purchased or rented through local music retailers like White's Music or Ingram Music Supplies. Used instruments can be purchased at pawn stores, through the newspaper and on the internet. This is the only way your child is guaranteed to get the instrument they want.
Music Book
Beginning Students:
We use the book Standard of Excellence Book 1 for your instrument.
Intermediate and Advanced Students:
We use the book Standard of Excellence Book 2 for your instrument. Sheet
protectors are useful to protect your sheet music and a 1" three ring binder is useful
to store the music in separately. You will be using the sheet music daily.
Supplies for Instrument
Flute:
A Pad-Saver is useful to clean the inside of the instrument.
Clarinet & Saxophone:
3 working reeds (Rico Royal size 2 1/2) helps ensure there will always be a good reed in the
case. A cleaning swab helps to clean the inside of your instrument.
Trumpet, Baritone & Tuba:
Valve oil helps to keep your pistons lubricated.
Trombone:
A small spray bottle will help keep you slide working correctly.
Percussion:
A rubber-surface practice pad and 2B drum sticks are most commonly used.
Orchestra:
A cake of rosin helps the bow vibrate the strings and shoulder rest is useful for violin and viola players.

Participation supplies and materials are available through the director. The Director will supply the necessary supplies needed to maintain the care of the instrument.
