Live Oak offers many instrumental music classes to suit our student body. All classes will have a minimum of two performances throughout the school year. Some groups will have more than others. Please look at the Performance Schedule for that information.
Beginning Band - Our beginning band program is for 7th and 8th grade students that have never played an instrument. Basic music concepts and techniques are taught for the student to learn a woodwind, brass or percussion instrument.
Intermediate Band - Our intermediate band program is for 7th and 8th grade students that have played a band instrument and need more refinement in their playing technique and musicality. This class will get students ready for Advanced Band and Jazz Band.
Advanced Band - Our Advanced Band program is for 7th and 8th grade students that understand the basic concepts of playing their instrument and reading notation. This class will focus on various genres in addition to learning scales. All Advanced Band students participate in the Marching Band.
Jazz Band - Our Jazz Band program is for 7th and 8th grade students that audition and are selected to be in jazz band. The group is made up of the traditional instrumentation. Therefore, the jazz band is a smaller class. This class will focus on various styles of jazz including swing and rock. Scales will also be taught. All Jazz Band students will participate in the Marching Band and will also perform with the Advanced Band.
Marching Band - The Live Oak Marching Band and Colorguard perform throughout the Central Valley. The Marching Band is made up of Advanced Band students and Jazz Band students. This group also performs at the local elementary school to help promote music.
Orchestra - Our Orchestra program is for 7th and 8th grade students that want to learn how to play an orchestral string instrument. This class will have beginners in addition to advanced players.
Colorguard - This is an after school program open to all incoming 7th and 8th grade students. Workshops will be held and at the end of the week, students will be selected based on effort, attitude and attendance. All colorguard students are required to attend practice that will be after school 3:30 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. Practices will be twice a week starting in August and going through the first week of December. All colorguard members will attend all the parades listed in the Performance Schedule
