At Little Acorns, I am committed to promoting healthy, safe, and balanced eating for all children in my care. This reflects current legislation and guidance, including the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS 2024) and NHS healthy eating recommendations.
All meals and snacks are nutritious, balanced, and appropriate for your child’s age.
Where meals are provided, I follow the NHS ‘Eatwell Guide’ to ensure children receive a variety of fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains.
Special dietary requirements (e.g., allergies, religious or cultural preferences) are carefully accommodated. Parents must provide full details on their child’s dietary needs.
Fresh drinking water is available at all times.
Milk, formula, and other age-appropriate drinks are provided according to parental instructions.
Sugary drinks, fizzy drinks, and energy drinks are never offered.
Parents are encouraged to provide healthy packed lunches in line with NHS guidance.
I do not allow sweets, chocolate, or fizzy drinks.
I will monitor contents for safety and nutrition, and advise parents if changes are recommended.
All food is prepared, stored, and served safely, following hygiene regulations.
Children are encouraged to wash hands before eating.
Perishable items are stored appropriately, and food is checked for allergies before serving.
Mealtimes are positive and social experiences, encouraging children to try new foods.
I use mealtimes to teach healthy eating habits and age-appropriate independence.
Parents must inform us of all allergies, intolerances, or dietary restrictions.
A care plan will be created for each child with special dietary needs.
We maintain a strict no-sharing food policy to reduce allergy risks.
