Opening weekend of League badly hit by weather

The opening weekend of the 2016 Camogie League was badly hit by weather with six of the twelve scheduled games called off due to unplayable pitches.

The only game played in the Senior League saw Ballyagran defeat Bruff by 3-10 to 1-7. Ballyagran took the lead early in this game and, despite a dogged response from Bruff, never relinquished it.

Three games were played in the Intermediate League. Crecora would be among most people's favourites to win this competition and their young side were too strong for Tournafulla winning on a 6-10 to 1-1 scoreline. Cappamore, another side with title ambitions, also laid down a marker to their rivals with a comprehensive 5-14 to 0-2 win over Killeedy.  However, the closest match of the round was a tightly fought city derby, where last year's Junior League champions Shannonside pushed Na Piarsaigh all the way. With no more than a score in it for most of the game a late flurry of scores from Na Piarsaigh saw them prevail by 0-12 to 1-3.

No games were played in the Junior League and the two matches completed in the Minor 12-a-side League saw a narrow 3-0 to 1-5 win for Ballybrown over Causeway and a 5-8 to 2-2 win for Cillard over Kilmallock.
