Adare Camogie Club | History
Adare Camogie Club was formed by a fantastic group of parents spearheaded by Lizzie O’Dea, Fr. Duggan and Fr. Moriarty. They held their first meeting on 1st February 1993. Our Club President Lizzie O’Dea celebrated her 81st birthday this year & is still coming to support our games! We will be celebrating 30 years of Adare Camogie in 2023
We are based primarily in the Manor Fields complex in Adare and are grateful to also have use of Scoil Naomh Iosaf field for our underage games and the Adare GAA field. We have great links with three primary schools in the Parish: Shountrade N.S., Our Lady’s Abbey and St. Nicholas.
We cater for girls from U5 to Adult (40+ years) and have teams competing at every level. Our club runs from Feb to Nov each year, with a great program of activities in between the various leagues & championships including the Kitty Cavanagh Parish League, a hugely successful parish league in the memory of our great club stalwart Kitty Cavanagh.
We are grateful for our amazing group of volunteers behind the scenes in our vibrant club. Thanks also to all the local businesses, sponsors, parents, schools, and club mentors.
Our club runs from Feb to Nov each year, with a great program of activities in between the various leagues &; championships including the Kitty Cavanagh Parish League, a hugely successful parish league in the memory of our great club stalwart Kitty Cavanagh.
Our club has competed well at underage level and have represented Limerick in the 1997 Féile competition in Waterford, the 1998 in Féile competition in Wexford and most recently the 2019 Féile Competition in Cork. Caoimhe Costello was the all-Ireland Féile skills competition runner-up in 2009 & overall winner in the 2010 Féile skills competition.
Adare Camogie has been a proud member of the 20 x 20 | Can’t See Can’t Be initiative. Our Adult team was re-formed in 2018, after a 3-year hiatus and has been growing in strength and in numbers since then. It is important to have an adult team in the club for young girls & future camogie all-stars to aspire to and we are grateful to the support from Limerick County Board & all of the clubs we have competed against since 2018 for matching the number of players on the field of play at times when we were struggling to make up numbers for a full 15 team.
New players are always welcome to join our club. Keep an eye out on the Adare GAA Facebook, Instagram & Twitter pages for updates on training & club events.
