Limerick to clash with Kildare in Birr

Division 2 Final

Sunday May 5th at 3.30pm

St. Brendan's Park, Birr, Co. Offaly

The Limerick Camogie team face Kildare in the Irish Daily Star National League Division Two Final on Sunday next 5th May. It is the first time in six years that Limerick have reached a national final. Led by captain Michelle Casey the Limerick girls will be looking to bring silverware back Shannonside. 

Kildare will provide a stern challenge though. A rising team they have been promoted over the last few years from Division Four to a position where they are facing off with Limerick for the coveted slot in Division One. Limerick will be looking to scores from leading scorer Niamh Mulcahy and the semi-final hat-trick hero Mary O'Callaghan. However Limerick's scores have come from all the forwards with Caoimhe Costello, Rebecca Delee, Marie Keating and Sarah Carey all getting on the scoresheet in the semi-final.  Limerick also have an excellent defensive record posting a points difference of 40 in the group stage. Indeed goalkeeper Sile Moynihan has only had to pick the ball from her net twice in the six league games to date.

Under the management of Joe Quaid, Ger Sheehy & Anne Herbert with James Moynihan as Liason Officer the Limerick team have had a very successful year winning matches against Antrim, Meath and Galway in the group stages and Kilkenny in the semi-final . Their solitary loss being by a single point to Waterford. Though the focus is still firmly on the Championship reaching the League final is a just reward for the amount of work that has been put in by the squad.

The Division Two League Final on Sunday May 5th will take place in Birr @ 3.30pm and Limerick Camogie are encouraging all Limerick supporters to travel to support the girls who have put in fantastic effort since coming together this year and deserve our full support.

It is once again a great honour for Camogie in Limerick to be represented in a final so please dig out your county flags, hats & banners & make the trip to Birr next Sunday for 3.30pm to support our girls.
